Music Atlast Crew

First thing you need to understand is that,
there is music, and there is music!

You have what is picked up and transmitted onto
airwaves amidst model-c accents peppered with
kasi slang then beamed onto T.V screens
one after the other- one looking like the other
and inducing the same seizures underneath strobe lights
and garish T-shirts in nightclubs everywhere.

And then, an ear-to-the ground distance away,
there is Music Atlast ®, a counter culture movement at
odds with the sheep-like, cookie-cutter music scene.
But, make no mistake; it wasn’t hate that spawned the crew,
but the love of all beautiful, hypnotic suppressed beats everywhere.
The crew consists of 4 principal members, Romz Deluxe ,
Symatics, Themba, Captain Schti and Tha Muzik.
and a growing number of guest turntable junkies.

With hip-hop as the starting point, this band of
beat-meisters journey backwards, forwards and sometimes even sideways,
playing an eclectic mix of funk, hip-hop, soul, electro,
big beats and
whatever beats your mother approves.

If nothing else, it’s the people who choose
Music Atlast™ as their musical home who deserve praise.
It could have been so easy to let the status quo stand and sink
deeper into they’re fully stocked mp3 players.
Be true to Jozi infamous fickleness when it comes to new gigs.
However the opposite is happening, since its inception
Music Atlast® has grown not only in size and stature,
but also in the music we explore. Let there be music at last!

stevie wonder live at last //

 Steve Wonder

f there were ever such a thing as American music royalty, Stevie Wonder would be the King of that royal family. As a gifted multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and record producer, Wonder has recorded more than thirty top ten singles, won twenty-two Grammy Awards, and has been inducted into both the Songwriters and Rock and Roll Halls of Fame. The fact that he was born blind and went on to sign a Motown record deal at the age of eleven, does not exactly make him your average success story either. The title of Wonder's first ever concert DVD, Live At Last, may be one of the biggest understatements of all time.

J$P is Here! F all them download links, take ya a$$ to iTunes or your nearest record store and go support the late great J Dilla's new album. I can promise you this album is worth every penny and then some. Rolling Stone was quoted as saying the project is "possibly the best posthumous rap record since the final releases of 2Pac and Biggie." Here is one last Jay $tay Paid bonus, "Make It Fast," featuring Bun B and Termanology. This track appears as a bonus with the purchase of the Vinyl copy of the album.

"the awakening" according to stacy epps //

Thank God, a sunny day after all the rain the last few days. Been listening to Stacey Epps’ 2008 debut for a while and after yesterday’s Dilla remembrance I just needed a glimpse of sun to write this post, as “The Awakening” is a sunshine album. I’ve written about Epps a few months ago yet I admit I was too late to listen to the full album, else it would have been on our Top 30.

The Awakening is a spiritual awakening taking place in the neosoul/hipsoul territory. The beats by Dilla, Madlib, Jneiro Janel, Muhsinah and Epps herself are extremely well crafted and laced with cosmic vibes, yet her spiritual lyrics and ethereal singing makes the album a non-skippable entity. Stacy’s mostly singing on this album but we get to hear her rap on a few beats and it’s always reassuring to hear street conscious positive lyrics as opposed to the manufactured self-referential pop music we try to avoid. There’s not much ground to stand left against the market’s demand and Stacy Epps is one artist to cling to. by Udomondo

CAPITAL IS IN ROSEBANK NEXT THE DESIGN DISTRICT.

A Tribe Called Quest is an American hip hop group, formed in 1988. The group is composed of rapper/producer Q-Tip (Jonathan Davis, renamed Kamal Fareed), rapper Phife Dawg (Malik Taylor), and DJ/producer Ali Shaheed Muhammad. A fourth member, rapper Jarobi White, left the group after their first album but appears to have rejoined the group since 2006. Along with De La Soul, the group was a central part of the Native Tongues Posse, and enjoyed the most commercial success out of all the groups to emerge from that collective. Their innovative fusing of hip hop and jazz has had a lasting impact on hip hop music, helping to expand the art of hip hop production. Many of their songs, such as "Bonita Applebum", "Can I Kick It?", "I Left My Wallet in El Segundo", "Scenario", "Check the Rhime", "Award Tour", and "Electric Relaxation" are regarded as classics
of the genre.

They released five albums in ten years, the first three of which were very highly acclaimed, and disbanded in 1998. In 2006, the group reunited and toured the U.S. and plan to release an album after some works in the studio. The group is regarded as iconic pioneers of alternative hip hop music, having helped to pave the way for innovative hip-hop artists.[1] Allmusic calls them "the most intelligent, artistic rap group during the 1990s". In 2005, A Tribe Called Quest received a Special Achievement Award at the Billboard R&B Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta. In 2007, the group was formally honored at the 4th VH1 Hip Hop Hon.
